JCDecaux entered the Irish outdoor advertising market in 1999 with the purchase of David Allen. David Allen & Sons Ltd began as a printing company established in Belfast in 1857 and quickly became Ireland’s first outdoor media owner. The company expanded to Dublin, England and Scotland, becoming one of the few businesses founded in Ireland, to expand throughout the UK. The acquisition of David Allen firmly established JCDecaux in the Irish market when we rebranded in 2001.

We are the recognised market leader in the billboard sector. In 2004 JCDecaux was awarded the first Luas advertising contract, which has since been renewed with the RPA.

Another first for JCDecaux occured when Dublin City Council appointed us to provide amenities for the city, including the highly acclaimed dublinbikes, in return for advertising displays.
