JCDecaux Portugal and Samsung illuminate Christ the King at Christmas
Christ the King, one of Lisbon’s most highly symbolic monuments, will be lit up from November 15 to January 6. A partnership between JCDecaux and Samsung has
made it possible to finance all the other Christmas illuminations in the Almada district of Lisbon.
Four angels holding hands present an image of Union and Peace that can be seen in all directions from the monument at distances of over 8.5 miles. The background surface is illuminated by 52,000 blue and white LEDs arranged to form the 11m high, 38m long Samsung logo.
In view of the large number of bulbs used, one constant preoccupation of this project was the need to be as energy efficient as possible. This is why JCDecaux Portugal decided to install LEDs, which only consume 1/8th of the energy used by a standard light bulb.
For Ana Lorena, Corporate Marketing Manager at Samsung Electrónica Portuguesa, “this project strengthens the ties between Samsung and the Portuguese through the relationship of the brand’s values with this very special time of the year. ”

A JCDecaux UK winter campaign for Beechams only runs when the temperature drops below 10°C
An innovative Beechams campaign is running across all of JCDecaux’s 17 digital screens in London during Decemeber that is controlled via constant updates throughout the day from the Met Office, it only actually runs when the temperature is below 10°C.
The creative is urging people to ‘Fight Back with Beechams’ using All in One tablets to battle symptoms of cold and flu.
Jon Wilson from MediaCom said “Our strategy was to bring Beechams into spaces where our ‘Fight Back’ positioning would resonate most. The immediate and flexible nature of JCDecaux’s PrimeTime package means that we can cost efficiently reach commuters with a targeted message when the temperature really bites”
The campaign was booked through Mediacom and Kinetic and is running between the 1st of December 2008 and the 8th of February 2009.
